Apple to Open New Downtown Montréal Store on January 16

Apple is relocating its downtown Montréal retail store to a new nearby address. The new Apple Sainte-Catherine store opens on Friday, January 16, at 10 a.m. local time. The move keeps Apple in the heart of the city while giving the long-running location a fresh space.

The new store sits inside a historic building at the corner of Sainte-Catherine Street and Rue de la Montagne in Montréal. Apple has spent the past few years renovating the property. The new location replaces Apple’s original Sainte-Catherine store, which first opened in 2008 just a short walk away.

Apple confirmed the opening details in an email shared with iPhone in Canada. The company says the relocation gives the store a new home while keeping it firmly rooted in downtown Montréal.

Opening artwork and free wallpapers

To mark the opening, Apple partnered with Montréal-based artist Catherine Potvin. She created a large illustration that now covers the outside of the store. The artwork draws inspiration from Montréal’s creative culture and includes subtle local references along Sainte-Catherine Street.

If you look closely, the illustration shows Apple products in everyday use. You can spot someone sketching on an iPad, a DJ wearing AirPods Max, a photographer using an iPhone, a person coding on a MacBook, and a yogi wearing an Apple Watch. Apple says the artwork will remain on display until the store officially opens.

Apple has also released a custom wallpaper designed by Potvin. You can download it for Mac and iPhone from the Apple Sainte-Catherine store page for a limited time.

Opening weekend events

Potvin will appear at the store during opening weekend for live art demos using an iPad. Customers who purchase these sessions can receive a complimentary Apple Store gift bag illustrated by her.

Live demo schedule

  • Friday, January 16: 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, January 17: 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The store move has been in the works for more than two years. Earlier reports traced the delay back to the sudden closure of the old store in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Apple now operates five retail stores in Quebec and 28 across Canada. The new Sainte-Catherine location keeps Apple’s downtown Montréal presence intact, just with a new address and a new look.
