Apple Confirms iPhone Duo Display Issue, Offers Replacements

Apple responds to iPhone Duo inner display cracking reports, confirms affected units, and offers replacements as concerns grow over hinge durability.

Apple has officially acknowledged reports of the iPhone Duo’s inner display cracking along the hinge, just days after the foldable iPhone launched on October 23. The company confirmed that a small number of devices are affected and advised customers experiencing display problems to contact AppleCare for a replacement.

As previously reported, several early buyers noticed cracks running through the folding screen, sometimes accompanied by bright horizontal lines or dead pixels. Some users reported hearing a popping sound or feeling unusual resistance while opening their devices.

“We are aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units. If users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement,” the company said.

Apple added that the problem typically appears early in affected devices. However, it has not confirmed the underlying cause or announced any manufacturing changes.

What Is Causing the iPhone Duo Screen to Crack?

Repair specialists at iFixit have suggested that the hinge mechanism could be responsible. Their teardown identified a central support bar that may fail to retract properly, potentially placing excessive pressure on the flexible OLED display.

The findings remain preliminary, and Apple has not confirmed a hinge defect.

The issue also follows recent durability tests that raised concerns about the foldable’s hinge and display strength.

Affected owners should contact Apple Support to arrange an inspection or replacement. Although some customers have already received replacement devices, limited inventory could delay the process for others.
