The current iPhone 16e still uses a notch design and runs on an A18 chip with a 4-core GPU. That puts it closer to older models like the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 in terms of design. The iPhone 17e appears ready to move forward, at least in key areas.

Dynamic Island and A19 Chip
A Chinese leaker ‘Smart Pikachu‘ claims Apple will switch the iPhone 17e to a Dynamic Island cutout. This would bring the interactive area at the top of the screen that shows live activities and system alerts, while housing the camera and sensors.
The same leak points to a downclocked A19 chip. Even with lower clock speeds, performance should land close to the A17 Pro, especially with improvements to the Neural Engine. This suggests Apple aims to boost efficiency rather than chase peak performance.
The phone is still expected to feature a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate. No high refresh rate is planned, keeping costs in check.
Display Rumors
Another known leaker has previously said the iPhone 17e will include both a Dynamic Island and an A19 chip, which supports the latest claim. However, a separate rumor complicates the picture.
According to that report, Apple may reuse the same iPhone 14-based OLED panel found in the iPhone 16e, but with slimmer bezels. If that turns out to be true, the notch could remain instead of switching to Dynamic Island.
There is also talk of Apple adding a magnetic ring for MagSafe charging. This would be a notable change, since the iPhone 16e does not support MagSafe.
To control costs, Apple may rely on an older C1 or C1X modem and skip the newer N1 wireless chip. Leaked Apple code reportedly supports this setup.
Production Timeline and Price
The same leaker says mass production will begin “after CES,” which points to January 9 or later. This lines up with expectations of a spring launch, likely about a year after the iPhone 16e debuted in February.
Apple is not expected to change pricing. The iPhone 17e should still start at $599.
