Apple plans to turn Siri into a serious AI assistant that works across iPhone apps and handles real tasks. The next version will no longer feel like a voice shortcut. It will act like a smart helper that understands what is on your screen, reads your messages, and connects the dots between your apps.
Mark Gurman reported this in Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter. He wrote that Apple will show the new Siri next month and that the company plans to demonstrate its features either in a media briefing or a small event.
A Gemini-based Siri is coming
Apple is rebuilding Siri with Google Gemini at its core. Gurman said the assistant will run on a new Apple Intelligence model that has Gemini’s technology built into it. He added that Apple wants Siri to be more personal and more useful inside apps.
This new Siri will ship as part of iOS 26.4. Gurman said the beta will arrive in February and the public release will follow in March or early April. That means iPhone 15 Pro users and newer models will get it within months.
Apple already previewed what Siri can do. The assistant “should be able to tap into personal data and on-screen content to fulfill tasks.” In one demo, a user asked Siri about their mother’s flight and lunch plans. Siri pulled that information from Mail and Messages and gave a clear answer.
Siri will live inside apps
Apple first planned to add separate chatbots inside apps like Safari, Music, Health, and TV. Those plans changed after John Giannandrea left his role leading Apple’s AI strategy. Apple now wants one assistant that works everywhere.
Instead of opening a chatbot inside each app, Siri will sit at the center of the system. It will connect to apps through App Intents and other system tools. That means you will ask Siri to do things, and it will move between apps for you. You will not need to know which app holds the data.
This shift also explains why Apple paused some other AI projects. Gurman said Apple stopped work on a new AI-powered Safari that would check sources and compare documents. The company also went back to the drawing board on AI Health features. Apple now puts most of its focus on making Siri work well first.
A bigger leap in iOS 27

The Siri you get in iOS 26.4 will not be the final step. Gurman said Apple plans to turn Siri into a full chatbot in iOS 27. This version will let users have long back-and-forth conversations.
He wrote that the Siri chatbot will be “competitive with Gemini 3” and “significantly more capable” than Siri coming this spring. This will put Siri in the same class as ChatGPT and Gemini, except it will live inside iPhone, iPad, and Mac with no extra app.
Some of this future Siri may run on Google’s servers. Even so, Apple will still present it as part of Apple Intelligence, with Gemini technology under the hood.
Apple started this journey at WWDC 2024. The first version ran into problems inside the company, which pushed Apple to lean on Google. Now the pieces are falling into place. Siri will soon move beyond simple commands and become the system brain that connects your apps, your data, and your daily tasks.
Great! MORE dumbing down of children/society. MORE Inability to think with their brains and do actual research. Yep. Easier but, easier to be dumber.
