WhatsApp has announced four new features for group chats, making it easier to find important messages, share updates, and catch up on conversations. The update introduces permanent message pinning, expanded message history sharing, group-specific status updates, and a new filter for mentions and replies.
The features, announced on October 29, are rolling out gradually to WhatsApp users on iPhone and Android.

- Pin messages forever: Users can now keep important messages pinned indefinitely, removing the previous requirement to choose between 24 hours, seven days, or 30 days.
- Share message history after someone joins: WhatsApp is expanding its Group Message History feature. Users can now tap a new member’s name to share recent messages even after they have joined the group. Shared messages remain end-to-end encrypted.
- Share group-specific status updates: Members can post status updates visible only to a particular group. Others can view, react to, and add their own updates, which disappear after 24 hours.
- Filter mentions and replies: A new “Mentions and replies” filter displays unread group conversations where someone mentioned you or replied directly to your messages, including notifications sent using @all.
When Will These WhatsApp Features Be Available?
WhatsApp is gradually introducing these features on Android and iOS, so availability will vary between accounts over the coming weeks.
The update builds on earlier improvements, including group message history and additional tools for organizing conversations.
Users should keep WhatsApp updated through the App Store or Google Play Store to receive the new features as they become available.
