Apple May Release iPhone Fold Months After iPhone 18 Pro Launch

Apple’s iPhone Fold may look more like an iPad when opened

Apple is preparing to launch its first foldable iPhone, but the release will not follow the usual schedule. Current reports suggest the iPhone Fold will arrive a few months after the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, which Apple is expected to introduce in September 2026. This shift allows Apple to keep its flagship launch cycle intact while giving the foldable model a separate spotlight later in the year.

The delayed timeline still fits Apple’s past strategy. The company has often released new or experimental models after its main lineup. Devices like the iPhone X, iPhone XR, and iPhone 14 Plus arrived weeks after their respective September events. Based on this pattern, Apple can announce the iPhone Fold alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, then ship it closer to the end of the year.

According to Barclays analyst Tim Long, the iPhone Fold could begin shipping in December 2026. His supply chain insights also suggest Apple is moving forward with production milestones, which signals that development is on track. Recent CAD leaks further support this, showing a design that appears finalized and consistent with earlier reports.

iPhone Fold Launch Date

Apple will likely unveil the iPhone Fold at its September event alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models, but the actual release will follow.

  • Announcement expected in September 2026
  • Shipments likely to begin in December 2026
  • Positioned as Apple’s most premium iPhone model
  • Foldable display with support for two apps side by side

This approach gives Apple time to refine the device and manage early production challenges while still maintaining excitement around the product.

Apple is also planning a split launch strategy for other models. The company is expected to release the standard iPhone 18 lineup, including the iPhone 18 and a possible iPhone 18e, in March 2027. Reports also mention either an iPhone 18 Plus or a second-generation iPhone Air arriving at the same time, although details remain unclear.

For now, the iPhone Fold stands out as Apple’s biggest shift in years. A December launch places it outside the traditional cycle, but the timeline matches Apple’s habit of spacing out major product changes.
