Apple Releases macOS Tahoe 26.4 With Safari Compact Tabs, Battery Charge Limits and More

Apple has released macOS Tahoe 26.4, and the update is now rolling out to Mac users with a small but useful set of changes. The new version arrives six weeks after macOS Tahoe 26.3 and brings back Safari’s compact tab bar, adds battery charge limits, and includes a few practical quality-of-life improvements.

This update also adds eight new emoji, shows warnings for apps that rely on Rosetta 2, brings Apple Creator Studio to Freeform, and expands Family Sharing payment options for adults in a family group. Apple says Rosetta 2 support is ending after macOS 27, so affected apps will now warn users before that transition happens.

How to update in short steps

You can install macOS Tahoe 26.4 from the System Settings app on your Mac. Apple is distributing the update through the standard Software Update section.

  1. Open System Settings
  2. Go to Software Update
  3. Wait for macOS Tahoe 26.4 to appear
  4. Click Update Now or Upgrade Now
  5. Let your Mac restart and finish the installation

All the Changes

macOS Tahoe 26.4 brings back the compact tab bar in Safari, which is good news for users who prefer a slimmer browsing layout. Apple had moved away from it earlier, so this change gives users a familiar option again.

The update also adds a Charge Limit setting for the Mac, letting you choose a maximum battery charge level between 80 percent and 100 percent. This can help users who want better long-term battery health and do not need their Mac charged to full capacity all the time.

Here are the other notable additions in macOS Tahoe 26.4:

  • Eight new emoji are now available system-wide.
  • Rosetta 2 warnings now appear for apps that will stop working in the future as Apple phases out support after macOS 27.
  • Apple Creator Studio for Freeform is included in this release.
  • Family Sharing payment changes now let adult family members use their own payment methods for purchases instead of relying on one shared payment source.

Overall, macOS Tahoe 26.4 is not a huge feature drop, but it does add several welcome improvements that make daily use a little better, especially if you use Safari often or want more control over your Mac’s battery charging.
