iPadOS 26.5 public beta 1 is out now, here’s what’s new

Apple Releases iPadOS 26.5 Beta 1 With Early Access for Developers

Apple has rolled out iPadOS 26.5 public beta 1 for testers, just days after the developer beta went live. The update arrives shortly after iPadOS 26.4 and continues Apple’s ongoing beta cycle ahead of its next major software release.

Early testing shows this is a smaller update with limited visible changes, but it still introduces a few useful tweaks and background improvements.

How to update

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap General
  3. Select Software Update
  4. Download and install the latest public beta

Make sure your iPad is enrolled in Apple’s public beta program before checking for the update.

iPadOS 26.5 public beta 1 focuses on small feature additions and system groundwork rather than big changes. The update introduces a new Suggested Places feature in Apple Maps that recommends nearby locations based on trends and recent activity.

Apple is also preparing support for ads in Maps, which may roll out later. Alongside this, the update brings back testing for end to end encrypted RCS messaging, improving cross platform messaging privacy. In select regions, Apple continues work on interoperability features like proximity pairing, notification forwarding, and Live Activities support for third party wearables.

Overall, the update feels incremental and builds on iPadOS 26.4 rather than adding major user facing features. This is still an early beta, so more features may arrive in upcoming versions. If you install it, expect minor changes for now rather than a big upgrade.
