iOS 27 Will Focus on Being “More Stable and Better Optimized for AI,” Says Report

iOS 27: New Features, Release Timeline, and All Leaks So Far

Apple’s next iPhone update looks set to take a different route from iOS 26. After pushing the Liquid Glass design across its platforms last year, Apple is now aiming for a cleaner iOS 27 release built around performance, stability, and deeper AI features rather than a long list of unrelated changes.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported in his Power On newsletter that iOS 27, code-named Rave, will focus on “boosting performance and adding artificial intelligence.” He also said Apple has pushed other features down the priority list so it can present the update as “more stable and better optimized for AI.”

iOS 27 Looks Like a Reset After Liquid Glass

Apple often follows a major visual redesign with a quieter release that fixes rough edges and improves day-to-day use. iOS 27 appears to follow that pattern. The difference this time is that Apple also needs to prove its AI strategy can work across the iPhone more practically.

That matters because Apple Intelligence still feels incomplete for many users. Siri has not yet become the smarter assistant Apple promised, and several AI features still sit in separate tools rather than feeling like part of the iPhone itself. iOS 27 gives Apple a chance to make AI feel less like an add-on and more like a normal part of iOS.

The biggest change appears to be the revamped Siri experience. Gurman says Apple is working on a standalone Siri app with a chatbot-style interface, support for third-party agents via the App Store, and the ability to handle multiple commands in a single request.

Apple also plans to bring new AI photo-editing tools to the Photos app. These tools will reportedly let users extend, enhance, and reframe images without jumping into another app. That puts Apple closer to editing features already seen in apps from Google, Adobe, and Samsung.

The Camera app also appears to be getting a more serious AI role. Apple reportedly plans to turn Visual Intelligence into a Siri mode inside Camera, sitting alongside current photo and video options. Users will be able to scan food packaging to view nutrition details and pull contact information directly from the camera feed.

Apple’s Already Says a Lot

Apple has not announced iOS 27 yet, but its broader direction is visible in how executives now describe product investment and future software priorities.

“While you’re not going to get me to talk about the details of that road map, suffice it to say, this is the most exciting time in my 25-year career at Apple to be building products and services,” John Ternus said. “There are so many opportunities before us, and I couldn’t be more optimistic about what’s to come.”

For iPhone users, the practical takeaway is simple. iOS 27 will likely feel less flashy than iOS 26, but it could matter more in daily use if Apple delivers faster performance, fewer rough edges, and AI features that actually save time inside Photos, Camera, and Siri.
