watchOS 26.5 RC solves two everyday Apple Watch bugs users kept hitting

Apple has now released watchOS 26.5 beta 1 for developers

Apple has released the watchOS 26.5 release candidate, and this build focuses on fixing two issues that have been frustrating Apple Watch users in daily use, especially those who rely on messaging and workouts throughout the day, while also adding a new Pride Luminance watch face with deeper customization options.

The release candidate stage signals that Apple is close to a public rollout, and based on its usual schedule, the final version should arrive within the next week, unless the company finds any last-minute issues that need correction before a wider release.

Here’s what the update actually fixes:

  • Fixes a bug where Messages on Apple Watch could send SMS instead of iMessage when paired with a dual SIM iPhone, which caused confusion and extra carrier charges in some cases
  • Fixes an issue where the Workout app audio alerts would not play if the paired iPhone was not nearby, affecting pacing and activity tracking during outdoor or standalone workouts
  • Adds the new Pride Luminance watch face with multiple customization options, giving users more control over design and appearance

These fixes matter because both issues affect core Apple Watch use, and once installed, users should see more consistent messaging behavior and reliable workout feedback without needing their iPhone nearby.

After this release, Apple will shift focus to watchOS 27, which it will announce at WWDC 2026 on June 8.
