Apple is reportedly developing a new AI-focused wearable that looks more like an AirTag than a traditional gadget, and the device could become one of the company’s most unusual accessories in years. According to recent reports, Apple’s so-called “pendant with cameras” remains in active development alongside its upcoming smart glasses and AirPods with built-in cameras, although the pendant project still sits at an earlier stage internally.
According to Mark Gurman, the wearable will work as an iPhone companion instead of operating as a standalone product like the failed Humane AI Pin. Apple reportedly wants the device to rely heavily on a paired iPhone for processing, which helps explain why the company continues to focus on deep iPhone integration across its next generation of AI hardware.
The pendant reportedly includes an always-on camera and microphone for Siri voice commands, though it will not feature a display or projector. Apple is also debating whether to include a speaker. Users would reportedly wear the device using a clip attached to clothing or as a necklace using a chain threaded through the accessory itself.
Bloomberg described Apple’s broader AI hardware push in detail:
“The company has also been working on smart glasses and a pendant with cameras for as early as next year, but development of both of those products trails the AirPods.”

That timeline lines up with previous reporting from The Information, which said the project remains in an early development stage and still faces cancellation risks before launch. Internal discussions reportedly place a potential release window around 2027.
At the same time, Apple’s smart glasses project continues to move forward. Gurman previously reported that the glasses will include cameras, microphones, and speakers similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, while focusing heavily on premium build quality and Siri-powered AI features. Apple reportedly tests multiple frame styles and color options as it explores the final design direction.
The bigger story here is Apple’s growing interest in visual AI devices that constantly interpret the world around users. The upcoming AirPods with cameras reportedly act as “eyes for Siri,” and the pendant follows the same idea by feeding real-world visual information into Apple Intelligence features inside iOS 27.
