iOS 26.6 Adds New Alert for Blocked Contacts Limit on iPhone

Apple’s iOS 26.6 update appears to make one small Phone app limit easier to understand. The first developer beta includes new wording that tells users when they have reached the maximum number of blocked contacts on an iPhone.

iOS 26.6 Shows a Clear Blocked Contacts Warning

Aaron Perris discovered the new alert while checking the code in iOS 26.6 developer beta 1.

“Blocked Contacts Limit Reached
You’ve reached the maximum number of blocked contacts. To block additional callers, remove a blocked contact in Settings.”

Apple does not publicly list an official blocked contacts limit, which has made this issue confusing for users who block spam callers regularly. Some users have reported problems after blocking thousands of numbers, including figures around 20,000 and 8,000, though the actual limit can vary.

The new alert does not confirm that Apple changed the limit. It simply gives users a clearer reason when iOS stops them from blocking more numbers.

To remove old blocked numbers, users can go to Settings > Apps > Phone > Blocked Contacts. From there, they can swipe left on an entry or tap Edit, choose the red minus button, and unblock a number.

A Small Change Before iOS 27

iOS 26 already includes better tools for spam call control, including Ask Reason for Calling, Silence Unknown Callers, and separate lists for unknown callers or carrier-marked spam.

For most users, this blocked contacts warning will never appear, but it gives heavy spam blockers a clearer fix when the Phone app reaches its limit.
