Getting people to switch their phone setup remains a top goal for Apple. Twelve percent of recent buyers moved from an Android device

During the March 2026 quarter, survey data showed that 12 percent of new smartphone purchases came directly from people who previously owned an Android device. The research group tracks this by asking buyers about their prior phone and operating system when they make a new purchase.

This current number falls right in line with recent historical trends. Over the past few years, the rate of users leaving devices powered by Google to join the iOS platform has mostly settled between 11 and 15 percent. The early days of mobile carrier expansion saw massive waves of people jumping ship, but the market has now reached a much more predictable rhythm.

While the massive spikes of platform switching are mostly in the past, pulling in more than one out of every ten new buyers from a rival company is a steady win. It shows that the platform still holds strong appeal for those looking to change their daily tech routine.
