Apple has started rolling out a new firmware update for the second-generation AirTag, bringing the tracker to firmware version 3.0.49. The update arrives a few months after Apple released version 3.0.45, which was the first major firmware update since the AirTag 2 launched in January.
MacRumors spotted the rollout, though Apple has not shared official details about what is included in the latest firmware. Like many AirTag updates, this release likely focuses on bug fixes, stability improvements, and background performance changes that improve the overall tracking experience.

The previous firmware update added changes to the unwanted tracking sound system, making it easier for people to locate an unknown AirTag through Precision Finding. Apple has not confirmed whether version 3.0.49 adds similar safety improvements or new features.
Apple still installs AirTag firmware updates automatically, so users cannot manually trigger the installation. However, you can quickly check whether your AirTag has received the latest version.
Follow these steps:
- Open the Find My app on your iPhone
- Tap the Items tab
- Select your AirTag from the list
- Tap the AirTag’s name
- Check the firmware version displayed on the screen
