During its big summer developer conference, Apple revealed some great updates for its mixed reality headset. People who use the spatial computer love the immersive backgrounds, and now there is a fresh option to check out. The latest visionOS software brings a stunning new location from Iceland right into your living room. The company designed this new virtual space to help you focus or just relax while using its device.
The update brings a virtual rocky valley straight from Iceland
The new backdrop is called Thórsmörk. It is based on a real nature reserve in the southern part of Iceland. Users get to see a wide view of rocky hills, green moss, and a cloudy sky. It is a very peaceful place to put your app windows when you want to block out the real world.
This new scenery was a highlight when Apple announced visionOS 27 at WWDC 2026 last week. The company took high-quality photos of the actual valley to build the virtual 3D space. You can look all around and hear natural sounds from the environment.
If you want to try it out early, you need to download the developer test software. This environment became available to test as Apple released visionOS 27 beta 1 to registered programmers. Everyone else will get the final version of the software this fall. It will arrive as a free download for all headset owners to enjoy.
