iPhone 18 Pro Release Date, Price, and Features: Everything We Know So Far

Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September 2026, with the latest reports pointing to an announcement around September 9. Apple has not officially announced its fall event yet, but the Pro models are already believed to be entering the final stretch before launch, with availability expected during the second half of September.

This year’s launch could also change the structure of Apple’s iPhone lineup. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to arrive alongside Apple’s first foldable iPhone, while the regular iPhone 18 and other lower-priced models are reportedly moving to early 2027.

Current reports point to the following schedule, although Apple can still change these dates before sending invitations.

Apple usually releases new Pro iPhones shortly after their September announcement, and reports currently place the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max release in the second half of the month.

A20 Pro could bring Apple’s first 2nm iPhone chip

One of the largest internal upgrades is expected to be Apple’s A20 Pro chip, manufactured using TSMC’s first-generation 2-nanometer process. The current A19 Pro uses a 3nm process, so moving to 2nm should allow Apple to improve performance and power efficiency while packing more transistors into a similar chip area.

Apple is also expected to use a new chip packaging design with the A20 Pro, which could improve the way memory and other components communicate with the processor. The practical gains will depend on Apple’s final CPU, GPU and Neural Engine configuration, which has not yet been confirmed.

Smaller Dynamic Island and updated display

Apple reportedly plans to keep the familiar 6.3-inch iPhone 18 Pro and 6.9-inch iPhone 18 Pro Max display sizes while reducing the size of the Dynamic Island. One report suggests the cutout could become roughly 35% smaller as Apple moves part of the Face ID hardware beneath the display.

Full under-display Face ID does not appear to be ready for this generation, so the iPhone 18 Pro is still expected to retain a visible Dynamic Island. Apple is also reportedly moving to LTPO+ display technology, with efficiency improvements that should help reduce display power consumption.

Camera upgrades could be a major focus

The iPhone 18 Pro camera system is shaping up to receive more substantial changes. Reports point to a variable aperture system for the 48MP Main camera, allowing the lens to physically change how much light reaches the image sensor.

Expected camera improvements include:

• A variable aperture on the 48MP Main camera for better control over light and depth of field.
• A wider aperture on the Telephoto camera, which should improve performance when shooting in darker conditions.
• New Pro-focused camera software and additional manual controls.
• A redesigned Camera Control button that reportedly drops touch sensitivity and haptic feedback while retaining pressure detection.

A variable aperture would also give Apple more flexibility when balancing sharp backgrounds, natural optical blur and low-light exposure instead of relying almost entirely on computational photography.

Apple C2 modem and satellite 5G

Apple is also expected to continue replacing Qualcomm components with its own silicon through a new C2 cellular modem. Reports suggest the C2 could support 5G over satellite through NR-NTN technology, potentially expanding satellite connectivity beyond Emergency SOS and messaging.

The technology could eventually allow internet access and supported third-party apps to work when normal cellular and Wi-Fi connections are unavailable, although carrier support and regional availability will determine how widely Apple can offer the feature.

An N2 wireless chip is also expected, following the N1 chip Apple currently uses for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread connectivity.

Battery life and design

The overall iPhone 18 Pro design should remain close to the iPhone 17 Pro, including Apple’s large rear camera plateau, while the rear Ceramic Shield section could receive a more uniform frosted finish.

Battery improvements appear more significant on the Pro Max. Reported regulatory information points to a 5,567mAh battery in the U.S. iPhone 18 Pro Max, up from 5,088mAh in its predecessor, while efficiency gains from the A20 Pro and LTPO+ display should also help extend runtime.
