New Apple TV 4K release date
Apple has not confirmed a release date, although the strongest recent reports point to fall 2026, with September or October currently looking like the most likely window. The new Apple TV and an updated HomePod mini have reportedly reached an advanced stage of development and are nearly ready for launch.
September would also make sense because Apple plans to roll out its new Siri capabilities alongside iOS 27. Reports have linked the delayed Apple TV refresh with those AI features, suggesting Apple wanted the new hardware ready for the upgraded Siri experience.
A17 Pro could deliver a major performance upgrade
One of the strongest clues about the new Apple TV comes from references found in Apple software code, which linked an unreleased model with the A17 Pro processor previously used in the iPhone 15 Pro.
Moving from the A15 Bionic to the A17 Pro would provide several useful upgrades:
- Faster CPU and GPU performance
- Hardware-accelerated ray tracing
- Hardware AV1 video decoding
- Support for Apple Intelligence
- Better performance for demanding Apple Arcade games
The A17 Pro is built using a 3nm process and provides considerably newer graphics hardware than the A15. Its AV1 decoding hardware would also give Apple additional options for efficient high-resolution video streaming.
There is still a chance Apple could use an A18 or another newer processor because the Apple TV has remained in development longer than originally expected. For now, however, the A17 Pro has the strongest evidence behind it.
Apple Intelligence and the new Siri
Apple Intelligence support could become one of the biggest differences between the existing Apple TV and the 2026 model.
The A17 Pro meets Apple’s hardware requirements for Apple Intelligence, while the A15-powered Apple TV does not. Reports also indicate that the upcoming Apple TV has been developed around Apple’s smarter Siri system.
Apple has not explained which Apple Intelligence features will specifically run on tvOS, so features such as AI recommendations or deeper conversational TV controls remain speculation.
Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and N1
Apple is also expected to install its N1 wireless networking chip in the new Apple TV 4K. The chip can support Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, giving the box a considerable connectivity upgrade over today’s Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 hardware.
Wi-Fi 7 provides access to the 6GHz spectrum on compatible networks and improves latency and network capacity. Those gains become especially useful for game streaming, large local media files, wireless accessories, and homes filled with connected devices.
Thread support could also become standard rather than remaining limited to a higher-end configuration, making Apple TV a more capable Matter and smart-home hub.
Siri Remote could also get an update
Apple has reportedly considered releasing an updated Siri Remote with the new Apple TV, although details remain limited. One possible addition is stronger Find My support, potentially making a misplaced remote easier to locate.
A major redesign of the Apple TV box itself is not expected. Current reporting indicates Apple plans to retain the familiar compact black design.
What will the 2026 Apple TV 4K cost?
Pricing has become difficult to predict after Apple increased the existing Apple TV 4K prices in June 2026. The 64GB Wi-Fi model now starts at $199 in the US, while the 128GB model with Ethernet and Thread costs $249. They previously cost $129 and $149 respectively.
Earlier rumors suggested Apple wanted to push Apple TV pricing closer to $100, but the recent increases make a substantial price reduction less likely. Apple has not revealed pricing for the next generation.
