Apple Reportedly Explores M8 Ultra AI Servers With Nvidia Networking

Apple Unveils New Mac Studio With M5 Max and M5 Ultra, Up to 512GB RAM

Apple is considering a return to selling server hardware, with a reported AI system built around future M8 Ultra chips and Nvidia networking technology.

The Information reports that the proposed machines would target AI developers, businesses, and governments that want to run models on their own infrastructure. The project is not an Apple announcement, and its specifications, timing, and commercial plans could still change.

The report says Apple has discussed Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion as a way to connect two or four M8 Ultra processors in a single system. Nvidia describes NVLink Fusion as technology for combining custom silicon with its AI infrastructure, but Nvidia has not named Apple as a partner.

What Apple has and has not confirmed

Apple has not announced an M8 chip, an enterprise server, an Nvidia agreement, or a 2029 release. The report’s proposed timetable should therefore be read as a reported plan rather than a product roadmap.

Apple does already operate server hardware for Private Cloud Compute, its system for some Apple Intelligence requests. That does not mean those machines are sold to customers. The reported project would be different because it would put Apple hardware in the hands of outside organizations.

Apple left the conventional server market when it discontinued Xserve in 2011. A commercial AI server would therefore be a notable change, but the key questions remain open: what software it would run, how customers would buy or manage it, and whether Apple and Nvidia will reach an agreement. For now, readers should treat the claim as a report about an early project, not a reason to delay a current Mac purchase.
