PITAKA iPhone cases have long topped our favorite lists and with the iPhone 18 on the horizon, we remain impressed. The new i18 Series applies its signature woven aramid fiber construction to the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and the new foldable Duo.
For those new to PITAKA, they offer two noticeably different ranges. The ultra-thin Edge feels premium and adds remarkably little bulk, while the thicker Guard cases offer a more reassuring grip and a greater sense of protection.
After handling the range, I found that choosing between them comes down as much to how comfortable you feel using your phone as it does to appearance.

The Edge Series is PITAKA’s ultra-thin option, designed to preserve the iPhone’s natural feel. The new iPhone Duo receives a specially designed foldable version, adapting the Edge concept to its two-part form factor.
Edge Case for iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max
For the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, the Edge case sports a single-piece, ultra-thin shell.Â
The slimness is immediately noticeable. With the Edge fitted, the phone feels considerably less bulky in a pocket than it does with a conventional rubber case. The woven finish has a textured premium feel that is just nice to grip and run your hand over.
The fit is exceptionally snug, too. You need to line the case up carefully and find the right angle before pressing the phone into place. It takes more effort than fitting a flexible rubber case, and I was reluctant to force it, having had bad experiences with other brands. Fortunately, it snapped into place without issue.
PITAKA says its revised construction improves drop protection by 80% compared with the previous Edge generation. That’s encouraging for such a thin case. The reshaped area beneath the camera surround is also intended to make fitting and removing the case safer.
PitaTap returns, which avoids simply leaving the Camera Control exposed through a cutout. Instead, a capacitive sensor is embedded beneath the case.
This maintains the Edge Case’s clean, uninterrupted appearance while providing dust-free protection over the control.
Unlike cheaper cases, it also preserves sensitive touch input. I didn’t have to push with any real force for it to register.
I also like that the bottom speaker cutout extends the protective boundary around the lower portion of the phone.
Finally, PITAKA’s Amber Magnetic Module provides compatibility with MagSafe chargers and accessories, without adding any additional bulk.
Overall, the new Edge retains the sleek look and feel that defines the series while improving protection and accommodating the iPhone 18.

For the foldable iPhone Duo, the Edge Series is split into separate sections that protect the two halves of the device. Fortunately, it retains the same surprisingly thin aramid fiber construction and minimalist feel of the rest of the range.
You can purchase the back shell on its own for $59.99 or opt for the front frame separately for $54.99. Alternatively, you can buy the complete Suite Case bundle for $109.99.
This modular approach is particularly interesting if you want to keep the foldable as light and unobstructed as possible, as you’re not forced to cover both halves.
Notably, the full case is hinge-free, leaving the Duo’s folding mechanism unobstructed.
When compared to some of the bulkier, wrap-around cases coming out for the Duo, this is a stylish approach.
The Mammoth Resin is still applied, giving you the similar impact resistance as the Pro and Max versions.
Guard Series
The Guard Series is PITAKA’s more protection-focused range. This combines its signature aramid fiber with tougher construction for even greater impact resistance. It consists of the more rugged Cairn Case and the slimmer, wraparound Summa Case.
Cairn Case
Of the cases I handled, I felt most comfortable using the thicker, rubber-edged designs. The Cairn’s more substantial frame gives you something firmer to hold, and it feels less delicate than the Edge when picking up or putting down the phone.
Its extended corners are designed to absorb more of the impact if the phone is dropped.
Visually, the Cairn case has a noticeably more outdoorsy appearance than the others. This time, the woven-pattern sits primarily on the back. I like this contrast with the rest of the frame and overall, it has more character than the predominantly black, gray and solid-color designs common among rugged cases.
Unlike the Edge’s integrated control, the Cairn uses a physical Camera control button designed for durability while keeping dust out.
Ultimately, Cairn is the more substantial case of the PITAKA range. Therefore, drop protection and grip take priority. However, it’s not absurdly bulky and carries a level of style not seen with more generic heavy-duty cases.

Summa Case
Still part of the Guards series, the Summa’s appeal is how neatly it combines fuller coverage with PITAKA’s woven finish. Unlike cases with an obvious join between the back and rubber edges, the weave continues around the sides for a cleaner look.
It costs $79.99, so there’s a slight premium for the combination of style and protection.
In hand and pocket, it feels only slightly bulkier than the Edge. While I personally favor some bulk, I also appreciated the professional vibe of the Summa, especially in black.
That said, PITAKA should be praised for its variety of color options for those that like something unique.
Ultimately, it finds the middle-ground. If you like PITAKA’s signature woven aesthetic but want more comprehensive coverage than the ultra-thin Edge, without adopting the outdoor styling of the Cairn, the Summa is for you.
Why Aramid Fiber?
Aramid fiber is a big part of what makes PITAKA’s cases distinctive. Its woven finish feels premium and has a subtle texture that’s more interesting to hold than smooth plastic. It also allows PITAKA to make the Edge exceptionally thin.
The material is used differently across the ranges. The Edge is closest to a bare-phone experience, while the Cairn pairs the weave on the back with rubber edges. The Summa carries the woven finish around the sides for a cleaner, more continuous look.
