OpenAI DevDay 2026 takes place today, September 29, at Fort Mason in San Francisco, bringing developers together for the company’s main developer event of the year. The opening keynote starts at 10 a.m. Pacific Time and features OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, while people who cannot attend in person can watch the keynote online for free.
This year’s event arrives during a busy period for OpenAI’s developer platform. The company recently released GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna through its APIs, following the launch of the more powerful GPT-6 Astra earlier in September. What to expect from OpenAI DevDay 2026
OpenAI has confirmed four major parts of the San Francisco program:
- Technical sessions covering OpenAI APIs and developer tools
- Hands-on demonstrations and workshops
- Deeper looks at technology OpenAI teams are building
- Sessions where developers can interact directly with OpenAI engineers and product teams
OpenAI has not disclosed a complete list of product announcements ahead of the keynote. However, its recent releases give developers several areas to watch.
The company launched its new Agents API in public beta on September 10, giving developers access to managed infrastructure for running long-lived cloud agents with the Codex harness, tools, files, code execution and subagents.
OpenAI also released GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna through the Responses and Chat Completions APIs on September 22. Sol costs $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, while Luna costs $0.10 and $0.50 respectively.
These launches make APIs, agent development, Codex and production AI workflows especially relevant areas to follow during DevDay.
DevDay is also expanding outside San Francisco
OpenAI plans to continue DevDay through smaller DevDay Exchange events later this year. The current schedule includes:

- Berlin: October 26
- Paris: October 28
- London: November 3
- São Paulo: November 6
- Mexico City: November 10
These events will include technical sessions, Codex workflows, hands-on guidance and discussions with OpenAI teams.
