Apple Music is testing a redesigned wordmark in iOS 27.2 beta 3 and macOS 27.2 beta 3. The new treatment keeps the Apple symbol but changes “Music” to heavier lowercase lettering.

Developer and code researcher Aaron Perris shared the iOS beta appearance on October 5. The same branding had appeared earlier around Apple Music Hall in London, suggesting it was not created only for one screen inside the beta.

The change concerns the service’s wordmark rather than the colorful Music app icon. It is more visible in places where Apple spells out the full Apple Music name, while listeners’ libraries, playlists and playback controls remain unchanged.

The design is still in beta

Apple has not announced a company-wide branding change or said when the revised mark will replace the current version. Its presence in beta software makes a broader rollout more likely, but Apple can still revise or remove visual elements before the public update ships.

Apple Music has received several interface changes during this software cycle. MacObserver previously covered darker Library buttons in iOS 27.2 and custom artist logos on composer pages.

Beta users may see the wordmark in different system locations as Apple updates assets across platforms. Everyone else should wait for the stable iOS and macOS releases before treating the design as final.

The heavier type is easier to distinguish at smaller sizes, although Apple has not explained the design choice. No subscription terms or service features are tied to the visual change.
