Apple Music has received a new black-and-white app icon in iOS 27.2 beta 4, replacing the familiar red-and-white design. Apple released the update on October 13 with build number 24B5110a, introducing several visual changes across the Music app.
The updated icon follows Apple’s recent Apple Music logo redesign in iOS 27.2 beta 3, which introduced a heavier lowercase wordmark. The latest beta extends that visual refresh to the app icon, navigation controls, and widgets.
The redesigned icon uses a black music note on a white background in Light Mode. When Dark Mode is enabled, the colors reverse, displaying a white note against a black background.

Apple has also slightly refined the musical note’s shape, giving it sharper angles while retaining the familiar symbol.
Here’s how the updated design compares with the previous version:
| Element | Previous Design | iOS 27.2 Beta 4 |
|---|---|---|
| App icon | Red and white | Black and white |
| Light Mode | White note on red | Black note on white |
| Dark Mode | Red and white | White note on black |
| Selected navigation tab | Red/pink | Blue |
| Music widgets | Red/pink backgrounds | Black backgrounds |
Apple Music Also Gets More Interface Changes
Alongside the icon, Apple is updating several interface elements that previously used its signature red color.
The changes include:
- Blue navigation highlights: The selected tab now uses blue instead of red.
- Redesigned Library icons: Playlists, Albums, Artists, and Songs display monochrome icons.
- Darker widgets: Apple Music widgets now feature black backgrounds.
- Updated Settings: Selected text and interface accents switch from red to blue.
These changes build on the darker Library buttons introduced in iOS 27.2 beta 1.
When Will the New Apple Music Icon Be Available?
The redesigned icon is currently available in iOS 27.2 beta 4, and Apple has yet to confirm whether it will retain the same appearance in the public release.
You can track the update through Apple’s official developer release page.
