Apple TV’s Dark Matter could return for a third and final season, as creator Blake Crouch and the show’s producers have already planned how the story should conclude. However, Apple has yet to announce an official renewal.

The sci-fi thriller concluded its second season on October 30, 2026, leaving several storylines unresolved. While viewers are waiting for an announcement, the creative team has confirmed that it always envisioned a three-season story.

“We always thought of the show as a three-season story,” Crouch said, adding that its future depends on Apple and the audience.

Executive producer Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry shared similar plans during San Diego Comic-Con 2026. She explained that the team designed the complete three-season storyline while pitching the second season to Apple.

The producers want to give the characters a proper conclusion rather than leave their stories unfinished.

What Could Happen in Dark Matter Season 3?

The second season expanded beyond Crouch’s original 2016 novel, introducing new conflicts involving Jason Dessen, his family, and other characters traveling between alternate realities.

According to Apple’s official series description, Season 2 follows Jason’s growing obsession with the Box while Daniela struggles with their family’s increasingly unstable situation.

Meanwhile, Amanda, Ryan, and Leighton pursue their own objectives across the multiverse.

A potential third season would have room to resolve these overlapping storylines and explore the consequences of the characters’ decisions.

However, the creators have not revealed specific plot details for Season 3.

Has Apple TV Renewed Dark Matter for Season 3?

As of October 30, 2026, Apple TV has neither renewed nor canceled Dark Matter.

The second season premiered on August 28 and concluded with its tenth episode, titled “No Quiet Life.”

Although the creative team remains interested in continuing the series, Apple has not announced a production schedule or release date.

Both seasons of Dark Matter are currently available to stream on Apple TV.
