The iMac with M6 starts at $1,499 for the 10-core model and $1,699 for the 12-core model in the US. With education savings, those drop to $1,449 and $1,599. Pre-orders open October 28, 2026, and the first orders arrive Friday, November 6. This page lists every price Apple publishes for the new iMac, including Apple Upgrade lease rates.
Apple’s store renders configuration prices with JavaScript, and the newsroom release only gives starting prices. Where Apple’s pages don’t show a price, the table says so rather than guessing.
The 10-core iMac with M6 costs $1,499 and the 12-core model costs $1,699
| Model | Memory | Storage | Price | Education price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M6, 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU | 16GB | 256GB | $1,499 | $1,449 |

The extra $200 for the 12-core iMac gets you more ports, Ethernet and Touch ID
| Feature | 10-core M6 | 12-core M6 |
|---|---|---|
| Ports | Two Thunderbolt / USB 4 | Four Thunderbolt 4 |
| External displays | One | Up to two |
| 2.5Gb Ethernet | Optional | Included |
| Keyboard | Magic Keyboard | Magic Keyboard with Touch ID |
| Nano-texture glass | Not offered | Optional |
| Maximum memory | 24GB | 32GB |
| Maximum storage | 1TB | 2TB |
What this means for you: if you’d add Ethernet and Touch ID to the 10-core model anyway, the 12-core model is the better value, because it includes both along with two more CPU and GPU cores.

What changed from the previous iMac, using Apple’s own figures
- The M6 chip is new, and Apple says the 12-core model has two more CPU and GPU cores than before.
- Apple says SSD read and write speeds are up to 2x faster.
- The colour range stays at seven: blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange and silver.
- Apple’s release doesn’t list the previous model’s price, so we can’t compare it here.
Buy the 12-core iMac with M6 unless you only need a family computer for the web and email
The $1,499 model is fine if you browse, write and video call. You’ll miss the extra ports and Touch ID, though, and you can’t take it past 24GB or 1TB. For $200 more, the 12-core model fixes all of that and adds Ethernet. If you’re buying for school, the education store takes $50 off the 10-core and $100 off the 12-core. We’d also go to 512GB, since 256GB fills up fast on a desktop you’ll keep for years.
