The manufacturer says the patent-pending mounting attachment is made out of Grilamid®, a “highly durable and resilient resin.”
The connector is a ball-and-socket, so you can rotate it freely and even use it in landscape mode.
One last thing: Notice the integrated bottle opener on one of the legs? That pushed it over the top and earned it a spot on my keychain.

True, Geoduck, true… But it’s so convenient and well-made I’m willing to take that chance. It’s easily the smallest tripod I’ve found; that it’s stable as a rock and includes a can opener is icing on the cake.

Except the Lightning connector is a connector. It was never designed to be a mount. I think you’re asking for trouble using it this way. Worn connectors, cracked connectors, bent connectors, all could disable your phone in expensive ways, possibly permanently.
