100 Days of Deception Episode 2 Ending Explained
The second episode concludes with Ga-kyung visiting a pawn shop, where she unexpectedly encounters Hideo, also known as Kim Tae-woong.
Hideo has been searching for her since she stole his wallet. He is particularly interested in recovering a pawn shop receipt that is 13 years old, suggesting it holds personal importance.
When Ga-kyung attempts to run away, Hideo trips her and catches her before she falls.
Their encounter creates another complication for Ga-kyung, who has already attracted suspicion because of her involvement in the failed assassination attempt against Inspector-General Sato Shinichi.
The old receipt also raises questions about Hideo’s childhood and why he remains so determined to recover it.
Why Does So-ran Want to Kill Sato Shinichi?
Episode 2 reveals that Yoo So-ran’s hatred toward Sato comes from a devastating tragedy involving her family.
Years earlier, Sato attacked her village after her husband, Seok-jung, participated in resistance activities. When Seok-jung refused to identify his fellow rebels, Sato ordered the execution of their daughter, Seo-hee.
Even after Seok-jung eventually gave in, Sato ordered the village burned, killing more innocent residents.
So-ran subsequently traveled to Shanghai, joined the Korean independence movement Gugukdan, and trained to become an assassin.
Her mission against Sato is therefore deeply personal, although it also serves the resistance movement’s wider struggle against Japanese colonial rule.
What Happens After the Failed Assassination?
The assassination attempt fails when Sato escapes, although his interpreter Suzuki suffers a gunshot wound.
Meanwhile, Yoo Philip and So-ran protect themselves by maintaining their cover story involving Ga-kyung. With help from resistance members working at a hospital, they also create a false account of So-ran suffering a miscarriage.
Philip’s American citizenship and position as a journalist offer additional protection because Sato wants to prevent damaging international publicity.
Interestingly, Suzuki’s injury creates an opening for a new interpreter inside the colonial administration, bringing Ga-kyung closer to the undercover mission described in the official Netflix synopsis.
What Does Hideo’s Past Mean for Ga-kyung?
Hideo’s complicated identity could become central to the story.
Although Sato raised him as his adopted son, Hideo was born Korean and now works within Japan’s colonial government.
His loyalty to his adoptive father is already complicated by painful childhood memories and Sato’s threatening behavior.
The mysterious pawn shop receipt suggests that Hideo’s earlier life still matters to him. However, the series has yet to explain its full significance.
As Ga-kyung becomes increasingly involved with Gugukdan, their growing connection could force Hideo to confront his loyalty to Sato.
Has 100 Days of Deception Revealed Its Final Ending?
No. 100 Days of Deception is scheduled for 16 episodes, with new installments airing on Saturdays and Sundays.
The first two episodes establish Ga-kyung’s dangerous involvement with the resistance, So-ran’s revenge mission, and Hideo’s unresolved past.
The central questions remain whether Ga-kyung can complete her undercover assignment, whether So-ran will finally confront Sato, and how Hideo will respond when he discovers the truth about the people closest to him.
For now, Episode 2 leaves Ga-kyung and Hideo face-to-face, setting up their increasingly complicated relationship in the episodes ahead.
