Prime Video has renewed Reacher for Season 6 before Season 5 has premiered, but the streamer has not announced which Lee Child novel will supply the next case. Any specific book choice is therefore a prediction, not a confirmed adaptation.
Season 5 is adapting Make Me, which removes one popular candidate from the board. The remaining library still gives the producers several ways to change scale after a mystery built around the isolated town of Mother’s Rest.

What it does not do is identify the plot. Reports announcing the renewal confirm Season 6 and note Season 5’s source novel, but they stop short of naming the next book. Headlines that present one novel as chosen are running ahead of the available evidence.
A self-contained case remains the safest choice
The strongest candidates are books that can introduce a fresh town, a contained conspiracy and a new group of allies without demanding extensive setup. 61 Hours, Worth Dying For and The Hard Way each offer a clear central problem and the kind of escalating danger the series handles well.
There are tradeoffs. 61 Hours has an ending designed to lead onward, while Worth Dying For follows events from that stretch of the novels. Adapting either faithfully could encourage a multi-season plan rather than the mostly standalone television structure used so far.
Continuity could shape the final selection
Prime Video may also choose based on what Season 5 changes in Make Me. The show has repeatedly rearranged characters and borrowed useful elements while keeping Reacher’s moral drive intact. A later novel can work even when the publishing order is ignored.
That flexibility is why there is no single inevitable answer. The best evidence today supports the renewal itself and the Season 5 book. Everything beyond that belongs in a clearly marked shortlist until Prime Video or the producers make the selection public.
Casting needs may narrow the choice too. Some novels are almost entirely Reacher stories, while others depend on a substantial partner or a community under pressure. The series has succeeded by giving those temporary allies real weight, so the available supporting role may matter as much as the villain or location.
