“Found/Lost” starts with Maggie and Luis leaving Manhattan to find medical supplies after the hospital begins running dangerously low. Their search takes them to the mysterious Trader, with Maggie offering methane tank blueprints in exchange for the supplies the community desperately needs.

The trip soon becomes much more personal. Luis talks about his wife Marisol, who left to search for her parents after the outbreak and never returned. Maggie also begins lowering her guard as the pair encounter Gerald and visit his peaceful, self-sufficient community.

During a celebration, Maggie drinks, dances and allows herself to enjoy a rare quiet moment with Luis. She then imagines kissing him, although the kiss never actually happens. The scene marks Maggie’s first real suggestion of romantic feelings for someone since Glenn’s death and shows how much her emotional state has changed.

Her wedding ring remains important. Maggie stops herself, thinks about Glenn and later talks with Luis about continuing to love people they have lost.

Negan gets another chance in Manhattan

Back in Manhattan, Negan helps strengthen the settlement and works alongside Hershel, Renata, Dillard and Fabian. Renata eventually offers Negan an apartment and a permanent place in the community, provided he follows her rules and stops killing people. She also reveals that she knows Negan killed the Dama.

Season 3 has increasingly pushed Maggie and Negan toward rebuilding Manhattan together after two seasons dominated by revenge, Hershel’s kidnapping and the struggle for control of the city. AMC describes the season around their attempt to create a thriving Manhattan community while old conflicts continue threatening what they build.

The episode ends with that new stability literally collapsing. An earthquake tears through the area, destroys the community’s pantry and brings walkers into the chaos. Maggie drops Glenn’s ring while fighting them and nearly gets bitten while searching for it, but Negan pulls her to safety.

With the food supply gone and Maggie beginning to reconsider what her future can look like, “Found/Lost” leaves several major problems heading into Episode 5.
