AirPods Pro 3’s dedicated specs page states up to 8 hours of listening with Active Noise Cancellation on. Apple’s separate compare tool, the tool that lines up AirPods 5 against older and pricier models, lists AirPods Pro 3’s noise-cancellation-off figure as up to 6 hours. Read together, turning noise cancellation off would buy an AirPods Pro 3 owner two fewer hours than leaving it on, the reverse of how every other current AirPods model behaves.

Where the two figures come from
AirPods Pro 3’s own specs page does not publish an Active Noise Cancellation off figure at all, only the on figure. The 6-hour off figure exists only on Apple’s compare tool, which is the sole place the two numbers can be set side by side in the first place. A shopper reading only the specs page would never encounter the lower number; a shopper reading only the compare tool would never see it sitting next to the 8-hour figure it contradicts.

AirPods 5 lists 4 hours with Active Noise Cancellation on and 6 hours with it off. The AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case lists 5 hours on and 7 hours off. AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation lists 4 hours on and 5 hours off. In each of those three cases, turning the feature off adds one or two hours, the behavior noise cancellation is generally expected to produce, since it is the feature doing the extra work when switched on. AirPods Pro 3 is the one current model where the published numbers, read across Apple’s two pages, run the other way.
Nothing else about AirPods Pro 3’s battery is in question
Its total-with-case figure, up to 24 hours with Active Noise Cancellation on, is not in dispute anywhere. Its other listening modes, up to 10 hours with Transparency and Hearing Aid, up to 7.5 hours with Spatial Audio and head tracking, up to 6.5 hours during heart-rate-tracked workouts, all come from the specs page without a competing number appearing elsewhere. Active Noise Cancellation off is the single figure that exists only on the compare tool and nowhere else, and it is also the only figure that runs backward against every other model’s pattern, including AirPods Pro 3’s own on-figure. A buyer weighing AirPods 5 against AirPods Pro 3, a comparison Apple’s own compare tool is built to support, would find every other row behaving as expected and this one row pointing the opposite way for the pricier model.
Where each figure sits, and how old each page is
AirPods Pro 3’s specs page has carried the 8-hour Active Noise Cancellation figure since the product launched, under Apple’s newsroom release “Introducing AirPods Pro 3: The Ultimate Audio Experience” in September 2025, about a year before this week. That page has never listed an off figure alongside it. Apple’s compare tool is a different kind of page entirely, a live, continuously updated tool with no publication date of its own, and it was touched again this month specifically to add the newly announced AirPods 5 alongside every model already listed, AirPods Pro 3 included. The 6-hour figure is sitting on the page Apple most recently updated, not on the older, static one.
What would settle this
Apple already publishes both an on and an off figure for AirPods 5 and for AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation, on those products’ own specs pages. Doing the same for AirPods Pro 3, adding an explicit Active Noise Cancellation off figure to its specs page, would settle whether 6 hours is the current measured number or something else, without anyone having to read it off a comparison tool at all. Until Apple publishes that figure in the one place it is missing, the specs page and the compare tool simply say two different things, and neither page points a reader toward the other.
What Apple has not said
Apple has not published an Active Noise Cancellation off figure for AirPods Pro 3 on the product’s own specs page, has not explained why the compare tool’s figure for that mode is lower than the on figure the specs page does list, and has not said whether the 6-hour compare-tool figure is a placeholder, a transcription of an older model’s number, or the current measured result for AirPods Pro 3. AirPods Pro 3 has been selling at $249 since last year; the mismatch sits on Apple’s live pages this week, alongside the newly announced AirPods 5, which ships Friday, September 18.
