Google says Android has reached a new milestone in mobile web performance, making it the fastest platform for browsing websites on smartphones. The company credits this progress to improvements across hardware, the Android operating system, and the Chrome browser.

Google reports that the latest Android devices achieved record scores in key web performance benchmarks such as Speedometer and LoadLine. These tests measure how quickly and smoothly a device handles web browsing tasks.

Google explains that Speedometer reflects real user interactions. It measures how fast a browser responds when users tap, scroll, or type on a webpage. The company states that higher scores result in a smoother and more responsive experience.

Google said its Android devices scored higher than a competing mobile platform in Speedometer 3.1 tests. The company did not name the competitor, but it is widely understood to be Apple’s iOS.

Google also introduced LoadLine as a newer benchmark. This test measures how quickly a webpage loads after a user clicks a link. According to Google, Android devices scored up to 47 percent higher than non Android competitors in this test.

Google stated that it worked closely with chipmakers and device manufacturers to improve system performance. The company optimized Chrome and system scheduling to deliver faster results.

Google says these improvements led to 20 to 60 percent gains in benchmark scores over the past year. For users, this translates to four to six percent faster page loads and six to nine percent quicker interactions.
