Every Apple Device Updating Monday, and the Ones iOS 27 Leaves Behind

iOS 27 is one of five operating systems Apple has confirmed for Monday, September 14, alongside iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27. A sixth, tvOS 27, has no release date attached to it anywhere on Apple’s own pages.

Eligibility is not one list either. Apple draws the line differently for each device family, and a household with an older iPhone, an Apple silicon Mac and an Intel Mac side by side will see three different outcomes on Monday.

Five operating systems, one Monday, and one exception

Apple’s pages for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27 each carry the identical line: “available starting 9.14.” tvOS 27 reached the same release-candidate stage in Apple’s developer channel on September 9 as the other five, but no Apple page names a public release date for it. Treat Monday as likely for tvOS 27, not confirmed.

The iPhone floor: iPhone 11 and the second-generation SE

Apple’s iOS 27 page lists its compatible iPhones by name, running from the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro Max down through the iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11, plus iPhone SE (2nd generation) and later. That is the floor: iPhone 11 and later, plus iPhone SE (2nd generation and later), not iPhone 12 and later, a distinction worth getting right because the wrong floor understates which iPhones actually qualify.

Getting the OS is not the same as getting every feature inside it. Full Apple Intelligence, including Siri AI, is reserved for iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 or later on Apple’s own device list. An iPhone 11 running iOS 27 will not gain those features regardless of the update.

Which iPads and Macs are on Apple’s list

Apple’s iPadOS 27 page lists iPad Pro (4th generation and later), iPad Air (4th generation and later), iPad (9th generation and later) and iPad mini (6th generation), with additional chip-level qualifiers on some of those models that are worth checking on Apple’s own page directly once it updates for Monday.

macOS 27 Golden Gate draws its own, sharper line: Apple silicon only. Its published list names the MacBook Neo, the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with Apple silicon from 2020 on, the iMac from 2021 on, Mac mini from 2020 on, Mac Studio from 2022 on, and the 2023 Mac Pro. Intel Macs do not appear on that list at all, which means an Intel Mac does not receive macOS 27 Golden Gate.

Vision Pro, and the two gaps

Apple’s Apple Intelligence device list names Apple Vision Pro (M2 and later) as compatible, and the Vision Pro sold today runs the M5 chip, so visionOS 27 is implied to reach both generations even though Apple has not published a dedicated visionOS 27 compatibility footnote separate from that Apple Intelligence list.

watchOS 27 also arrives Monday, for new devices such as Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 and for older models alike, but the specific older Apple Watches that qualify were not part of the Apple pages checked for this piece. tvOS 27 has neither a confirmed date nor a published device list at all, the only member of the September 14 family missing both.

What Apple has not said

  • A public release date for tvOS 27, or a list of which Apple TV models will receive it.
  • Which older Apple Watches qualify for watchOS 27, beyond the shared September 14 timing stated on Apple’s cross-OS page.
  • Whether the chip-level qualifiers on Apple’s iPadOS 27 compatibility list are final, or will be restated once the page updates for release day.

Today is Saturday, September 12. Five of Apple’s six operating systems have a confirmed Monday, September 14 release; the newest iPhones, including iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo, ship with iOS 27 already installed, while everyone else’s eligible device downloads it fresh.
