Apple Is Turning Siri Into a Real AI Chatbot in iOS 27

Apple plans to change Siri in a big way with iOS 27. The company wants to turn Siri into a full chatbot that talks and thinks more like modern AI tools. This new version will replace the current Siri experience and become a central part of how people use their iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Instead of short voice commands, users will hold real conversations with Siri and ask it to handle complex tasks across apps.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on a new Siri system called “Campos.” The report says Apple will “revamp Siri later this year by turning the digital assistant into the company’s first artificial intelligence chatbot.” This new Siri will live inside iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, not as a separate app. Users will still say “Siri” or hold the side button to start, but the experience behind it will change.

A real chatbot replaces the old Siri

The biggest change is how Siri talks with users. Today, Siri works like a command tool. The new version will work like a chatbot similar to ChatGPT. That means you can ask follow-up questions, keep a conversation going, and get more detailed answers. Bloomberg says this version will support both text and voice, but with real continuity between sessions instead of one-off replies.

This update is set to become the main feature of iOS 27 and macOS 27. Apple plans to show it at WWDC in June and release it in September along with the next major software updates.

What the new Siri will do

Gurman reports that this new Siri will go far beyond basic questions. It will:

  • “search the web for information”
  • “create content”
  • “generate images”
  • “summarize information”
  • “analyze uploaded files”
  • use personal data to find “specific files, songs, calendar events and text messages”

This level of access is something current chatbots do not have. Siri will connect directly to the system and apps, which gives it more power.

The report also explains how tightly Siri will link with Apple software. Bloomberg says Siri will work inside apps like Mail, Music, Podcasts, TV, Xcode, and Photos. For example, you can ask Siri to find a photo by describing what is in it, then edit it with changes like cropping or color fixes. You can also ask Siri inside Mail to write a message about your upcoming calendar plans.

Apple has long said it did not want a “bolt-on chatbot on the side.” This design solves that problem. Siri becomes the chatbot, built into everything you already use.

For users who felt Apple fell behind in AI, this shift changes the story. The new Siri gives Apple a real answer to OpenAI and Google, without breaking how people already use their devices.
