Apple announced the iPhone 17e in a newsroom post, positioning it as a strong value option within the iPhone 17 family.
“iPhone 17e combines powerful performance and features our users love at an exceptional value, making it a compelling option for customers looking to upgrade to the iPhone 17 family,” said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing.
“With A19 for incredible performance, double the entry storage, a smarter camera system, and enhanced durability, iPhone 17e is designed to stay fast, secure, and valuable for years to come.”
Design and Display
Apple built the iPhone 17e with aerospace grade aluminum and gave it an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. The 6.1 inch Super Retina XDR OLED display reaches up to 1200 nits of peak HDR brightness, which helps when viewing content outdoors. Ceramic Shield 2 adds 3x better scratch resistance compared to the previous generation and reduces glare with an improved anti reflection coating.
Face ID handles authentication, and the Action button lets users quickly access features such as the flashlight or visual intelligence with a single press. The phone comes in black, white, and a new soft pink finish.
A19 Chip and C1X Modem
The iPhone 17e runs on Apple’s latest A19 chip, built on 3 nanometer technology. Apple says the 6 core CPU is up to 2x faster than iPhone 11, while the 4 core GPU supports hardware accelerated ray tracing for improved gaming visuals. The 16 core Neural Engine supports Apple Intelligence features and large generative models.
The new C1X modem is up to 2x faster than the C1 in iPhone 16e and uses 30 percent less energy than the modem in iPhone 16 Pro. Apple says this efficiency supports all day battery life.
Battery and Charging
Apple claims the iPhone 17e delivers all day battery life with help from the A19 chip and C1X modem. With USB C fast charging, the device can reach up to 50 percent charge in around 30 minutes.
The phone also supports:
- MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging up to 15W
- A wide ecosystem of MagSafe accessories including chargers, cases, and wallets
48MP Camera and 4K Video
The iPhone 17e features a 48MP Fusion camera that supports an optical quality 2x Telephoto option, giving users two focal lengths in one camera. Users can shoot at full 48MP resolution or use the 24MP default for balanced image quality and file size.
Key camera features include:
- Night mode for low light photography
- Improved Portrait mode with advanced depth processing
- Automatic depth capture for people, dogs, and cats
- HDR with better skin tones and highlight control
The phone records 4K video at up to 60 fps in Dolby Vision and supports Spatial Audio recording. Audio Mix and wind noise reduction improve sound quality in videos.
Satellite Features and iOS 26
The iPhone 17e supports Emergency SOS via satellite, Roadside Assistance, Messages via satellite, and Find My via satellite when users are outside network coverage. It also includes Crash Detection that can call emergency services after a severe car accident.
The device ships with iOS 26, which introduces a Liquid Glass design and expands Apple Intelligence features such as Live Translation, Call Screening, and message filtering from unknown senders.
Pricing and Availability
The iPhone 17e starts at $599 in the US for the 256GB model and is also available in 512GB. Pre-orders begin March 4 at 6:15 a.m. PST, with availability starting March 11.
With double the base storage, a new A19 chip, improved durability, and a 48MP camera system, the iPhone 17e targets users who want modern iPhone features at a lower entry price within the iPhone 17 family.
