Apple Music will soon show a “Made With AI” label on music that was materially generated using artificial intelligence, giving listeners a clear indication when generative AI played a significant role in creating a song or other content. Apple has informed music industry partners that the labels will arrive later this year, although the company has not announced a specific launch date.
The Hollywood Reporter obtained an email Apple sent to industry partners on Thursday, which says content providers must use AI Transparency Tags whenever AI created a material portion of submitted content, including tracks generated through AI platforms.
“Content providers will be required to include AI Transparency Tags in any instance where AI was used to create a material portion of the content, including tracks that are AI platform generated. We define AI-platform-generated content as anything that is primarily derived from a generative AI service.” — Apple Music, in an email to industry partners
Apple Music is making AI disclosure mandatory
Apple first introduced Transparency Tags in March, allowing creators and distributors to disclose AI use across artwork, tracks, compositions including lyrics, and music videos. Those disclosures were initially optional, with content providers deciding whether their work qualified as AI-generated.

The upcoming policy makes those tags mandatory when AI contributes materially to the content, while Apple will turn the submitted information into labels that every Apple Music listener can see.
Apple Music VP Oliver Schusser told Billboard in April that more than a third of new monthly uploads were entirely AI-generated, although those tracks represented less than 0.5% of actual listening. Apple also operates an internal AI-detection system, while continuing to rely on creators and distributors to disclose AI use accurately.
Apple has not explained how it will enforce the new disclosure requirement, but the visible labels are scheduled to reach Apple Music later this year.
