Apple is discussing new content deals with publishers that would give Siri AI access to current news and information, as the company prepares a major Siri upgrade for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 later this year.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple has contacted publishers in recent months about multiyear agreements, with the company considering payments whenever Siri AI uses content from participating news organizations. Apple has discussed a possible nine-figure budget for these payments, according to people familiar with the talks.

The proposed model differs from many existing AI licensing agreements, where publishers receive guaranteed fees in exchange for broader access to their content. Apple has previously paid publishers through agreements that included AI training rights, while Apple News+ has also generated revenue for participating news and magazine companies since its launch in 2019.
Apple wants more reliable news inside Siri AI
The talks come as Apple prepares to make Siri far more capable across its operating systems, including better access to current information that users can request through natural conversations.
Accurate news information has become particularly important for Apple after its earlier AI notification summaries generated misleading headlines. Apple disabled news summaries after publishers raised concerns about incorrect information appearing under their names.
Apple now appears to be building direct publisher relationships before Siri AI launches this fall, giving the assistant access to licensed reporting while creating a payment system tied to actual content usage. The approach would also give publishers another way to earn revenue when Apple uses their reporting to answer Siri requests.
