Apple has released macOS 27 Golden Gate beta 7 to developers, continuing testing ahead of the public launch expected in September. Apple had not yet published the beta 7 build number on its public developer releases page at the time of writing, while the previous beta 6 carried build 26A5416b.
The latest beta arrives one week after beta 6 and comes at a stage where Apple is largely focused on stability, performance, app compatibility, and fixing remaining bugs before macOS 27 reaches everyone.
How to update to macOS 27 beta 7
If your Mac is already enrolled in Apple’s developer beta program, you can install beta 7 directly from System Settings. A free Apple developer account can be used to access developer beta updates.

- Open System Settings on your Mac.
- Select General from the sidebar.
- Click Software Update.
- Click the information button next to Beta Updates if beta releases are not already enabled.
- Select macOS 27 Developer Beta.
- Return to the Software Update screen.
- Wait for macOS 27 beta 7 to appear.
- Click Update Now and follow the instructions.
It is worth backing up important files before installing beta software, especially if you use the Mac for work, since unfinished releases can still contain bugs and compatibility problems.
All the changes in macOS 27 so far
Beta 7 is arriving late in the macOS 27 testing cycle, so major new additions are becoming less common. Apple has already introduced and refined several features across earlier betas.
- Siri AI: macOS 27 introduces Apple’s redesigned Siri experience, with conversational responses, personal context, onscreen awareness, and the ability to find information across apps and personal data.
- Write with Siri: Siri can help generate text, revise existing writing, and provide feedback from supported areas of macOS.
- Liquid Glass improvements: Apple has continued refining the Liquid Glass interface introduced with macOS Tahoe, including better readability, improved opacity, stronger window separation, and changes to shadows.
- Liquid Glass transparency control: Users can adjust the transparency of interface elements with a dedicated slider, giving more control over how prominent the glass effect appears.
- Updated app design: Apple has moved toward more consistent toolbars, edge-to-edge sidebars, fewer menu bar icons, and less rounded window corners across macOS.
- New wallpapers and screensavers: Earlier macOS 27 betas introduced additional Golden Gate-themed wallpapers and screensavers, with more wallpaper options appearing later in the beta cycle.
- Apple Intelligence upgrades: Developers gain access to an expanded Foundation Models framework, including support for multimodal prompts and different language models through a common protocol.
- Gaming improvements: macOS 27 adds support for the PlayStation Access controller and includes new tools for testing older Intel-based games during the beta period.
- Rosetta changes: Apps previously configured to open with Rosetta now attempt to launch natively, while Apple continues preparing for the end of support for Intel-based software in macOS 28.
- Safari improvements: Safari 27 includes extensive WebKit changes, new web platform capabilities, improvements for extensions, and support for newer immersive web technologies.
- Bug fixes and stability: Recent betas have increasingly focused on reliability, compatibility, visual polish, and fixing issues found during developer and public testing.
