Apple has released the tvOS 26.2 Release Candidate (RC) for Apple TV, the near-final build that usually arrives just before public rollout. The update prepares the platform for a wider release and continues the work that started with the big tvOS 26 redesign and its Liquid Glass interface.
With tvOS 26.2 RC, Apple focuses on polishing the experience rather than reinventing it. The update tightens performance, refines visuals, and adds a few quality-of-life changes aimed at families and shared living rooms.
How to update to tvOS 26.2 RC
If you are in the beta program and have an Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD:
- Open Settings on your Apple TV.
- Go to System > Software Updates.
- Select Update Software and choose Download and Install if tvOS 26.2 RC appears.
tvOS 26.2 general changes
tvOS 26.2 RC introduces a new kids mode in the TV app for child profiles, giving parents tighter control over what younger viewers see. It also adds user profiles that do not require an Apple Account, which helps when you set up temporary or guest profiles on a shared Apple TV.
Apple also continues to tune the Liquid Glass interface with smoother animations and keeps pushing performance and stability improvements, building on earlier 26.x updates.
- Better profile handling when switching users after wake.
- Minor accessibility refinements across menus and playback controls.
- Under-the-hood bug fixes that improve streaming reliability.
That is the tvOS 26.2 RC story for now. Tried it on your Apple TV yet? Let us know in the comments.
