Apple has started sending money to users who joined the Siri privacy lawsuit. These payments come from a $95 million class action settlement tied to claims that Siri recorded conversations without clear user intent. People who filed valid claims now see deposits in their accounts, while others will receive prepaid cards or checks by email or mail.
A user on X shared the first public sign of these payments. Many others soon reported similar deposits, which confirms the payout process has begun.
Who Qualified for the Settlement
Apple opened claims last year, and only certain users met the rules. You needed to own a Siri-enabled Apple device during a specific time and also experience an unintended Siri activation.
To qualify, you had to meet all of these conditions:
- You bought or used a Siri-enabled Apple device between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024
- Siri turned on without you trying to use it
- You submitted a claim before the deadline
Each person could list up to five devices in one claim.
How Much Money Users Are Getting
The settlement set aside $95 million, but the final payout per device came in lower than early estimates. The fund had to cover legal fees and all approved claims, which reduced what each person received.
Here is how the payments worked out:
- Maximum of five devices per person
- About $8.02 per device
- Maximum payout of about $40.10
Some users chose direct deposit, while others picked a prepaid gift card or a mailed check.
The case started after reports showed that Siri sometimes turned on by accident. When that happened, it recorded parts of private conversations even though users did not call for the assistant.
What Apple Changed Afterward
Apple denies any wrongdoing, but it changed how Siri handles recordings. The company now requires users to opt in before any audio gets used for grading or improvement. Apple also stopped using outside contractors for this work.
Apple also states that Siri recordings never link to Apple IDs and never serve marketing or ad tracking. Even so, the company chose to settle the case so it could move forward.
If you filed a claim, check your bank account, email inbox, and spam folder. Direct deposits have already started, and prepaid cards and checks will follow soon.
This lawsuit closed one of the longest-running privacy disputes tied to Siri. Now, after years of waiting, users finally see the money arrive.
