Apple looks ready to bring video streaming into the car through CarPlay, and the first iOS 26.4 beta shows clear signs that the feature is getting close to launch, with references pointing to watching Apple TV content directly from the vehicle screen while the car stays parked and connected to an iPhone.
The beta includes setup screens, alerts, and restrictions designed around safety, and the system checks if the car is moving before allowing playback, which means Apple plans to treat this as a parked-only entertainment feature instead of an always available media option.
According to Apple’s developer material, the system will rely on automakers to support video playback because the car must confirm that the vehicle is not driving, and that requirement explains why rollout will depend on manufacturer integration rather than appearing instantly on every CarPlay supported vehicle.
Apple TV integration inside CarPlay
The software strings show direct interaction with the TV app, and a message states, “When you’re not driving, sign in to Apple TV on iPhone,” which confirms that playback starts from the phone and then transfers to the car display.
Another alert warns users they must subscribe on the iPhone before opening premium content, so the car interface works more like a remote display rather than a standalone streaming device, while AirPlay handles the video transmission between the phone and the dashboard.
Apple first previewed parked video playback during WWDC 2025, and this beta finally shows the onboarding flow and notifications needed to make that demo real, although the feature still depends on car manufacturers enabling support before drivers actually see it in daily use.
Even so, the presence of working prompts inside the beta strongly suggests Apple is preparing the experience rather than testing a rough concept, which usually happens shortly before public release.
