Apple has expanded Apple Watch hypertension notifications to seven more countries, giving more users early warnings about high blood pressure. The feature now reaches 170 countries and regions, which makes it one of the most widely available health tools on the Apple Watch.
Apple confirmed the rollout today as part of its ongoing watchOS 26 health expansion. The company first introduced the feature last year and said it “expected to notify over 1 million people with undiagnosed hypertension within the first year.”
New countries now supported
Users in the following seven countries can now turn on hypertension notifications:
With this update, Apple Watch users across Asia, Oceania, South America, and the Middle East can now access the same health alerts that were once limited to fewer regions.
How hypertension alerts work
Apple says the Apple Watch tracks how blood vessels react to each heartbeat. The system runs quietly in the background and reviews trends over 30 days.
“Hypertension notifications on Apple Watch use data from the optical heart sensor to analyze how a user’s blood vessels respond to the beats of the heart,” Apple said. The system then checks for “consistent signs of hypertension” and sends an alert when it sees a pattern.
The goal is simple. Apple wants users to spot a serious health risk early so they can talk to a doctor and take action.
Hypertension is a major global health problem. Apple says it is “the leading modifiable risk factor for heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease,” and it affects 1.4 billion adults worldwide. Most people do not feel any symptoms, which means the condition often goes unnoticed.
That is where the Apple Watch comes in. Watching trends over time, it gives users a chance to learn about a problem before it turns into something worse.
What happens after an alert
When the Apple Watch detects repeated signs of high blood pressure, it sends a notification. The alert suggests that the user start more frequent blood pressure checks with help from a doctor.
This does not replace medical care. It acts as an early signal that something is not right and needs attention.
How to turn it on
Apple Watch owners in supported countries can set up hypertension notifications inside the Health app on their iPhone. Once enabled, the system starts tracking automatically as long as the watch is worn regularly.
Supported Apple Watch models
Hypertension alerts require newer hardware. The feature works on:
- Apple Watch Series 9 and later
- Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later
With this latest expansion, millions more people can now get early warnings about high blood pressure just by wearing their Apple Watch.
