Chrome on iOS is testing a Gemini feature that lets you create and remix images on iPhone from photos or directly from the camera, all inside the browser.
Tap the Gemini icon in the address bar to open the Gemini overlay, similar to the Ask Gemini shortcut that opens an in-page AI assistant. It opens in a bottom panel within Chrome.
From here, you can create or edit images. You can upload a photo, take a new one using the camera, or generate an image from scratch. Chrome labels this flow as “Create image: Make and remix images.”
The editor also includes simple tools to modify an image before sending it to Gemini. You can draw on the image using a sketch tool or add text, then apply a prompt to remix it.
When selecting an image, Gemini lets you apply short text prompts to reimagine the picture. In testing, Gemini could turn a toy panda into a tiger or convert a photo into a stylized character or robot.
The remix interface also includes an upload option called “Nano Banana,” Google’s codename for this image remix system. Google has already introduced a similar Remix feature in Google Messages, where users can edit and reimagine photos directly inside conversations using the same Gemini-powered image model.
Results vary based on the prompt. Sometimes the output does not fully preserve the original subject, especially with detailed transformations. Repeated edits can use the last result instead of the original image.
The feature requires camera access to be enabled. A toggle in Chrome’s Gemini settings allows photos to be captured and shared for remixing.
This image remix tool is still in testing and is not part of the default experience for all users. It can also be enabled through an experimental flag in Chrome Beta.
