Instagram Now Lets You Tell the Algorithm What You Actually Want

Instagram Says “No Breach” After Suspicious Login Warnings

Instagram is giving users more control over the content they see by expanding its Your Algorithm feature to the main feed. The update allows people to view the topics Instagram believes they are interested in and adjust those preferences across several parts of the app, making recommendations feel more personalized and transparent.

According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, users can now review and modify the topics that influence recommendations in their main feed. While the feature currently focuses on topic-based interests, Instagram plans to expand it in the future with support for requests related to specific people, content types, moods, and other preferences.

Instagram has gradually introduced tools that give users more influence over recommendations. The company previously brought similar controls to Reels and the Explore page, and the latest update extends that experience to one of the app’s most-used sections.

Adam Mosseri said the change represents a broader shift in how Instagram approaches recommendations. He explained that while recommendation systems have become highly advanced, they have also reduced the sense of control users have over their experience.

In many cases, the system learns from viewing habits and interactions, but users have limited ways to directly communicate what they want to see.

Mosseri believes this lack of control contributes to the discomfort some people feel when using social media. He said users often feel that the experience is happening to them instead of being shaped by them.

With Your Algorithm now reaching the main feed, Instagram aims to make recommendations feel more user-driven while giving people clearer ways to shape their experience on the platform.
