iOS 26.3 Update Size Appears Massive for Many iPhone Users

Apple’s latest iOS update, version 26.3, has stirred frustration among iPhone users because of the large download size it displays on some devices. Many people expected a modest package with minor fixes. Instead, some reports show download prompts of 10GB or more. These figures have raised concerns and sparked discussion on social platforms like Reddit and Twitter.

Users say the download size on their iPhones does not match expectations. Some see figures above 10GB before installation. Others report that the update requires far more free space than previous releases. Because the update screen shows such large numbers, many users think they must clear space or risk slow downloads or errors.

This issue comes as Apple rolls out iOS 26.3 publicly. The company describes this update as mainly bug fixes and security improvements, not a major feature release. Yet the size shown on devices suggests a bigger package than expected. When users see the large number, they worry about storage and performance impact.

Users should remember that the number shown is not always the final download bytes. The system often shows the necessary free space and the temporary unpacking needs. If storage is low, updating via a computer can avoid these prompts entirely. Connecting an iPhone to a Mac or PC and updating through Finder or iTunes usually downloads a more compact firmware image.

Until Apple clarifies these size displays, complaints will likely continue. Most of the frustration comes from perception, not actual data usage. But for users with limited storage, the concern is real and immediate.

  • Agree with pretty much everything Mat said. Plus I can’t even turn off animations, can’t make touch screen more sensitive, can’t choose to where I want the cursor to land when I touch the screen – at the end of a sentence or line or in the exact spot where I need it to be. iPhones and Mac have been becoming old people phones for a while. But now they’re for old wealthy people with no sense of identity of their own.

  • Last update was over 10 GB’s and today’s is over 10GB’s. If I install it it will have used up over 30GB’s of space
Probably done with iPhones now unfortunately. I verified this after waiting a month on last update and currently at 20.43 GB’s before today’s update. It makes them look incompetent. Benefits do not outway rewards with Apple now. iPhone 6 Plus was the best phone.

    1. Agreed! I don’t need some fancy animations and useless social crap. I’m fact apps like the native OSX Preview is horrible on iOS. You can even print from it and it functions like some knock off third party app. The Apple Mail internal view/print works better. Using more storage just shows how lazy the developers are by not writing clean code and just stacking more garbage on old garbage just like Windows. And of course the iPhone 6 was the best phone ever after the 4. I had mine way past the life cycle until it wouldn’t update or run apps anymore due to them not supporting older versions. Apple has updated their pricing to that of a Bentley or Maybach in the computer world and may their lower tier crap like the Airbook like tha of a high-end consumer grade PC. I can’t even afford to buy anything new from Apple anymore. $2,700 – $3,200 for a MBP and Mac Mini was my limit. The same once’s now will run you $3,800 – $5,000 respectively.
