Apple has released iOS 26.4 for all users, but many iPhone owners say the update size looks unusually large when they try to download it.
iOS updates sometimes include system-level changes, reindexing tasks, and refinements across apps, which makes the package larger even if visible changes feel limited. Quick fix to reduce iOS 26.4 update size
- Open Settings
- Go to General
- Tap Software Update
- Open Beta Updates
- Turn Beta Updates off
- Go back and check for the update again
Once you turn off the beta profile, iOS shows a much smaller update size because it downloads only what is needed for the public version.
This large update size does not indicate a problem with your device, and it does not mean Apple added massive new features overnight. It simply reflects how iOS handles updates between beta and stable versions, especially when system files need a full replacement.
