Apple has introduced a fresh wallpaper strategy with iOS 27 and macOS 27 Golden Gate, bringing a unified visual identity across its platforms for the first time. Instead of giving each operating system a completely different look, Apple now uses a shared wallpaper design called Celosia, creating a more consistent experience across devices.
The Celosia wallpaper features sweeping curved layers with soft shadows that resemble flower petals or folded paper. In Light mode, the design blends warm sandy gold tones with subtle purple accents, while Dark mode uses deeper indigo shades with silver-blue highlights. The layered shapes also form a stylized “27,” directly connecting the artwork to this year’s software release.

Multiple Variants Across Platforms
On iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, Apple includes three Celosia wallpaper styles: Standard, Dynamic, and Color. Each version comes with dedicated Light and Dark mode options designed for both the Home Screen and Lock Screen.
Meanwhile, macOS 27 Golden Gate includes dynamic Celosia wallpapers that change throughout the day and are available directly within the operating system.
Apple has also extended the Celosia design to CarPlay. The first developer beta includes 14 wallpaper options across several colors, including Grey, Purple, Red, Teal, Blue, Brown, Dark Blue, and Green. Users can also choose a Hero wallpaper available in both Light and Dark modes.
With Celosia, Apple has created a consistent visual theme that connects iPhone, iPad, Mac, and CarPlay through a single design language.
