Apple is preparing to introduce several new Home products at its October 13 “Welcome Home” event, and iOS 27 already gives users a preview of the software behind that push. The Home app now uses Apple Intelligence to make security camera footage easier to understand and reduce the number of repeated smart home notifications.
The biggest changes focus on HomeKit Secure Video, with searchable camera footage, generated descriptions, noteworthy clips, and support for 4K recording on compatible cameras. Apple has also added a smarter notification system that groups related Home activities into one continuously updated alert. Our complete iOS 27 Home app roundup covers the wider changes in detail.
HomeKit Secure Video gets its biggest upgrade yet
Apple Intelligence can now analyze HomeKit Secure Video recordings and generate descriptions of what happened across one or more clips. This means users can understand an event without manually watching every recording.

Natural-language search also makes old footage much easier to find. Apple gives package delivery as one example, so users can search for a specific activity instead of scrolling through a long camera timeline.
| iOS 27 Home feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Video descriptions | Generates a written summary of recorded camera activity |
| Natural-language search | Finds clips using descriptions such as a package delivery |
| Noteworthy clips | Highlights potentially important recordings at the top of Search |
| 4K recording | Lets supported cameras stream and record at 4K resolution |
Apple previously limited HomeKit Secure Video below 4K, so the higher resolution is an important upgrade for cameras that support it. However, Apple has not published a complete compatibility list for 4K cameras. Our 4K HomeKit Secure Video guide explains what Apple has confirmed so far.
Home notifications now update in real time
iOS 27 also changes how the Home app handles related accessory alerts. Apple Intelligence understands several notifications as part of the same activity and combines them into a single alert that updates as events happen.
For example, arriving home, unlocking a door, checking the mailbox, and closing the garage can appear as one continuously updated notification instead of several separate alerts.
Apple calls the feature Reduce Notifications. It can be managed under Home > Home Settings > Apple Intelligence, and Apple enables it by default. Users who prefer individual alerts can turn it off. Our guide to disabling bundled Home notifications includes the exact steps.
Some Apple Intelligence Home features have extra requirements
Apple says its intelligent camera features require an Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone, a supported Home hub, and an eligible iCloud+ subscription. The current support documentation lists HomePod 2, HomePod mini, and Apple TV 4K as supported hubs.
Apple Intelligence for Home also requires an iCloud+ plan starting at 2TB for these camera intelligence features, according to Apple’s iOS 27 release documentation. We have a full breakdown of the 2TB iCloud+ requirement and which features it affects.
These upgrades arrive at an important time for Apple’s Home ecosystem. Apple’s October 13 event is expected to bring a new smart home display, HomePod mini 2, and refreshed Apple TV 4K, giving the upgraded Home app a much larger role across Apple’s upcoming hardware lineup.
