iOS 27 Will Let You Create Shortcuts Just by Typing What You Want

Apple’s new AI-powered Shortcuts upgrade in iOS 27 lets iPhone users create automations using simple natural language commands.

Apple is preparing one of the biggest upgrades to the Shortcuts app since its debut, and the new system focuses on something many iPhone users have wanted for years: creating automations with plain language instead of manually building actions step by step.

According to Bloomberg, Apple plans to introduce the feature with iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 at WWDC in June before a wider public release in September. The report says the updated experience lets users simply describe what they want a shortcut to do, while the system automatically creates and installs it on the device.

“The version now in testing lets users create shortcuts simply by describing what they want them to do.”

That change matters because the current Shortcuts app still feels complicated for average users, especially when creating multi-step automations for apps, smart home controls, reminders, or productivity tasks. Right now, users either build shortcuts manually or install pre-made versions from Apple’s gallery.

Bloomberg says Apple’s new interface presents users with a prompt asking, “What do you want your shortcut to do?” followed by a text field where users can describe the automation naturally.

The company is also preparing broader AI features for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, including a Grammarly-style grammar checker, AI-generated wallpapers, and expanded “Write With Siri” options across the system.

“Users can accept individual suggestions, approve all changes or ignore them altogether.”

Apple already introduced Writing Tools in 2024 with proofreading and summarization support, but the new update reportedly pushes those features deeper into the operating system while making Siri more useful inside everyday apps and text fields.

The upgraded Shortcuts app looks especially important because it removes one of the biggest barriers that kept casual iPhone users away from automation tools for years.
