Every headline number Apple has published for the iPhone Duo is measured against something, and almost every one uses a different yardstick. The display claim is set against the iPhone 18 Pro Max, the cover screen against the iPhone 18 Pro, the chip figures against last year’s A19 Pro, and the sustained performance claim against the iPhone 17 Pro, a phone Apple stopped selling on September 9.
That matters when you are trying to place Apple’s first foldable inside the rest of the lineup. No single comparison in Apple’s own material covers the Duo against the phone sitting next to it on the store page, so the claims have to be read one at a time.

Two claims you can check against a phone Apple still sells
The two display claims are the only ones aimed at current hardware. The 6.9-inch iPhone 18 Pro Max is the baseline for the 7.6-inch inner display, and the 6.3-inch iPhone 18 Pro is the baseline for the 5.4-inch cover screen. Both of those phones go on sale on September 18, five weeks before the Duo, so the comparison is at least one a buyer can make in a store.

Apple gives neither claim in square inches or square millimeters. It publishes diagonals, resolutions and pixel densities (1878 by 2670 at 430 ppi inside, 1398 by 2034 at 460 ppi outside), and leaves the area figures as percentages.
The chip claims compare a chip, not a phone
Four of the ten claims are silicon claims, and all four use the A19 Pro as the baseline. The A19 Pro is last year’s Pro chip, from the iPhone 17 Pro generation, so none of those numbers tells you how the Duo compares with the iPhone 18 Pro. Both phones run the same A20 Pro, Apple’s first 2-nanometer iPhone chip.
One wording gap sits inside that set. Apple publishes the 20 percent CPU figure on the iPhone Duo pages and no CPU percentage for the iPhone 18 Pro at all, even though the chip is the same. The thermal claim is the odd one out in the other direction: 35 percent better sustained performance than an iPhone 17 Pro, which Apple discontinued the day the Duo was announced.
The comparisons Apple never makes
Three of the questions buyers ask most are missing from Apple’s comparison set entirely.
- Cameras. Apple says the Duo’s 48MP Ultra Wide matches the iPhone 18 Pro’s and stops there. There is no claim about the main camera against the Pro’s variable-aperture 48MP Fusion Main, and the Duo has no telephoto lens to compare with the Pro’s 100 mm f/2.8.
- Battery. The Duo’s figures are absolute: up to 24 hours typical use, up to 44 hours of video on the cover display and up to 31 hours on the inner display. Apple never sets them against another iPhone.
- Durability. Apple publishes ratings rather than comparisons here, including IP68 to a maximum depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes, Grade 5 titanium, and a hinge of more than 100 components. There is no fold-count figure and no durability claim against a non-folding iPhone.
Nobody outside Apple has used an iPhone Duo, so every figure above is Apple’s own and none of it has been tested independently.

What Apple has not said
Apple has published no comparison of the Duo’s cameras, battery or weight with any other iPhone, no fold-cycle rating, no crease measurement, and no test conditions for the 20 percent CPU or 35 percent sustained performance claims. It has not said why the CPU figure appears on the Duo pages and not on the iPhone 18 Pro pages. The battery ratings on both phones are Apple’s own laboratory figures rather than measured results.
iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max pre-orders are due to open today, Saturday, September 12 at 5 a.m. PT, with those phones in stores on Friday, September 18. iPhone Duo pre-orders follow on Friday, October 16, it ships on Friday, October 23 in more than 70 countries, and 28 more follow on Friday, October 30.
