Apple’s first foldable iPhone could be difficult to buy when it launches, with a new rumor claiming the iPhone Fold will arrive in “very tight supply” as Apple struggles to ramp production quickly enough.
According to leaker Fixed Focus Digital, Apple’s production ramp for the foldable model is moving more slowly than it does for regular iPhones. The latest claim follows months of reports about manufacturing challenges surrounding Apple’s first foldable device.
iPhone Fold production remains the biggest question
Apple has reportedly solved some earlier manufacturing problems, and recent reports still point toward a September 2026 launch. However, solving those issues does not necessarily mean Apple can immediately produce millions of devices at the scale required for a major iPhone release.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously estimated that Apple could have only around 500,000 to one million foldable iPhones available during the third quarter of 2026. His broader estimate puts second-half shipments at roughly seven to eight million units.
That would leave the foldable model with considerably lower initial availability than Apple’s mainstream iPhones, especially if early demand proves strong.
Launch-day stock could disappear quickly
Limited production raises the possibility of long delivery estimates shortly after pre-orders begin. Kuo has already suggested the foldable iPhone could sell out quickly, with shipping times potentially extending several weeks for some buyers.
Apple is widely expected to introduce its first foldable alongside its premium iPhone lineup in fall 2026. The company is also reportedly prioritizing higher-end models as component and supply-chain pressures continue across the smartphone industry.
Apple has not announced the iPhone Fold or confirmed its launch date, price, specifications, or production numbers. For now, the latest report suggests availability could become one of the biggest issues surrounding Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
