iPhone Ultra Supply Could Be Extremely Limited at Launch, Report Says

Apple’s first foldable iPhone, widely rumored as the iPhone Ultra, may arrive with very limited supply when Apple announces its next iPhone lineup in September, which means buyers may have to wait longer than usual to get one near launch.

According to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple’s foldable iPhone shipments in the second half of 2026 will likely reach only 7 to 8 million units, while third-quarter shipments may sit between 500,000 and 1 million units. That is much lower than the expected 20 to 22 million units for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in the same quarter.

iPhone Ultra May Follow the iPhone X Launch Pattern

Kuo says the foldable iPhone may repeat what happened with the iPhone X in 2017, when Apple announced the device in September but opened pre-orders in late October and started sales in November because early production remained limited.

The rumored iPhone Ultra is expected to bring a 5.5-inch outside display and a 7.8-inch inside display, giving users a larger screen in a foldable design while keeping the device under 5mm thick when unfolded. The price is also expected to sit between $2,300 and $2,500.

Buyers May Face Long Delivery Times

Because early supply looks tight, the foldable iPhone could sell out quickly once pre-orders begin, and delivery estimates may stretch to 4 to 6 weeks or longer through December.

Kuo also believes strong demand, limited stock, and the new foldable design may push resale prices 50% to 100% above Apple’s official price during the launch period.

By late 2026 and early 2027, Apple should have a clearer picture of real demand once launch buzz slows down and production improves.
